Whalsay

Old Haa, Symbister
18th c.
2 storey, much altered. Remains of walled garden with 2 arched entrances. Symbister house (nearby) retains an Armorial Panel dated 1750 inscribed John Bruce Steuart and Christina Gifford, sculpted by John Forbes. This may have came from the Haa, former residence of the Bruces of Symbister.

Maryfield House
19th c.
L Plan. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Late Haa form. Built by the Garth Estate factor, Walker, brought in to improve the land in the 1860's and 1870's.

Gardie House
from 1724
Two storey, originally with piended roof in the Scots style of John Smith. Built for the Mouats of Garth. Later pedimented attic, 3 bays. 7 bays grouped 1/5/1 with the principal rooms on the first floor emphasised by the larger windows. The deep plan is in marked contrast to the Haa form but the pronounced garret (before the pediment was added) is a typical Haa feature. The Drawing room retains its arcaded and fielded panelling to a similar pattern as the Haa of Sand.

2 storeys, 3 bays. Rebuilt 1819. Built as the Manse in later Haa form.

Haa, Cruister
Ruins remain

Gungstie, Noss
from before 1684. I½ storey with few deepset windows and three massive chimneys. Restored to seasonal farmhouse 1986.
